City officials, representatives from the Department of Planning and Development, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks and award winners gathered on October 23, 2018 for a reception honoring the winners of the 2018 Preservation Excellence Awards. Stewart School Lofts was one of three winners of the Adaptive Reuse award, which highlighted properties that have re-purpose existing buildings for a new use.

As part of the conversion from Graeme Stewart Elementary into Stewart School Lofts, the developer achieved Landmark Status for the main (Western) facade of the building, delicately restoring original brick, limestone and copper elements to accurately resemble the original design.
